Welcome

Getting your piece right is about a conversation to between you and us. While we utilize checklists and such it's more about getting to know you, your wants, and what you plan to do with your piece. That being said, there are a number of FAQs that we thought we'd address here.

Frequently Asked questions

General Questions

How much does it cost to get my furniture refinished/ reupholstered?

The cost can vary dramatically from piece to piece depending on size, simple designs vs. ornate, as well as condition of the piece and the materials it's made of.

How long will it take?

This too can vary dramatically depending on the piece and where your piece ends up in the cue of upcoming work. But generally, we try to run 5-6 weeks for most pieces from the time we pick it up until the time we deliver it.

Is there a deposit required?

We require a 50% deposit when we pick up a piece with the balance due upon delivery. This can be negotiated on commercial work.

Do you do pickup and delivery?

Absolutely! We offer free pickup and delivery within our service area and can even deliver nationwide for a fee. We frequently deliver all over Minnesota and Western Wisconsin and have even delivered as far as New York City.

Furniture Refinishing

Do you dip?

We used to but we no longer do. We find the safety risks for our employees, the environment, and delicate furniture pieces is greater than the benefits offered by dipping. Instead, we use a combination of hand and power sanding to strip pieces.

Can you refinish veneer?

Yes! We frequently refinish pieces featuring veneer work. We can even patch or reglue bubbled and chipped veneer as needed.

What about detailed carvings?

Our expert sanders can get the old finish out of the most detailed carvings. Using a variety of tools the old finish is removed with minimal to no discernable effect on carved details. In fact, we can often restore damaged carvings, and they tend to look a lot better cleaned up with a new finish.

Upholstery

Do you sell fabric?

Yes, we carry a wide variety of fabric from our distributors. We have on hand a large number of books from Charlette Fabrics. This fabric is very high quality and carries a lifetime warranty.

Can I supply my own fabric?

Yes, we welcome projects in which the customer supplies their own fabric. The only caveat we add to this is that it should be a high-quality upholstery fabric and, if you supply the fabric, we can't warranty the fabric itself, only the workmanship.

What about foam?

We use a high-quality dense foam on all our projects unless requested differently. We generally replace the horsehair and burlap in older chairs with modern supplies that both hold up longer and give a more comfortable cushion.

Can you retie or replace my springs?

Yes, we always check the condition of both springs and their support structure and replace and repair as necessary.

Custom Work

What materials do you use?

We use all species of wood and veneer. We also have access to a wide variety of hardware to personalize your piece to your exact specifications.

How do I know what it'll look like before it's built?

We take great care to make sure we're on the same page before ever beginning a piece. From hand drawn plans to computer generated 3D images, we use a variety of means to be sure what you ask for is what you get.

Can you incorporate upholstery into custom work?

Yes, as a multifaceted shop, we are able to incorporate both woodworking and upholstery into your project as appropriately fits the piece.

Cabinet Refinishing

Do you do it all in my home?

No, while we do refinish the outsides of the boxes and the face frames in your home, we take the doors and drawer fronts back to our shop to minimize dust and time spent in your home.

What about dust control?

We pride ourselves on a clean work environment. Using dust walls and vacuums we are able to keep dust contained and thoroughly clean up the dust we make.

I'm missing or have a broken piece on my cabinets. Can you repair/ replace

Yes, as a full-service shop we can make you a new piece that matches the rest of your cabinets as closely as possible.
